There’s so much to live for

The world with all its varied splendour
all the colours of every sense
endlessly perceived through your
stupefyingly meaningless existence.

Why have faith in humanity
why praise the stars in the sky
why explore every single extremity
why does every living thing eventually die?

It’s because there’s just so much to live for
it isn’t—and should never be—a bore;
life in all its splendid spectra
gives you of emotions and thoughts a plethora:
it’s worth it: to see the sunrise and the sunset
and look forward to knowing people you’ve never met.

This poem was written some time in November or December 2020, but the exact date is unknown.

The dreadful “but”

There comes a time in every evening
when you’re with a beautiful lady
who has piqued your interest
(and you hope you’ve piqued hers):

Either you go one step forward or two steps back;
the dreaded “you’re a nice guy”
and the dreadful “but”

Or the sweet tender kiss
and wide-smiled “I’d love to”

Two worlds precariously close
during times in the evening.

Spilled ink

I’ll keep writing till my pens run out
till the napkins in the café are all written upon
till my quill runs dry
till the octopi flee
until all ink has been spilled:
all the ink I’ve got and then a little bit more.

The fountain

The fountain of emotion slows
now a torrent, not a hurricane.
It’s shouldering expectation
burdened by absent hope.

It too, thought,
from a pale mucky marsh
it’d become resplendent—
jets of love and care
shooting off towards the stars
blowing the Trevi out of the water.

Alas, mucky marsh it remains
gloopy staleness dripping
obscured by the past
clouded by the future.

Yet a glimmer of hope remains:
a single water-lily
among the soggy weeds.

A flying moth

There’s a felling I’ve been born with
winning the lottery as an only child
my stomach, an empty bottomless pit
a long, infinite cardboard tube
I’m endlessly falling down
that’s a feeling that’s with me
trying to claw its way out
like a flying moth, towards a light
but this light keeps drifting further away
and I’m this moth, stuck
in a world in which I don’t deserve to belong.

Clouded stars

The stars are out for you
your eyes shine brighter
Your golden locks shimmer
in the late winter breeze.

But I sense you distant,
behind that smile—
brumous thoughts hidden
clouding that smile.

I came here wanting nothing
but I came out wanting more
my heart yearns for loving
but it can yearn for you no more.

Twenty Twenty 2

On this eve of the New Year,
Now is the time to reminisce,
Now is the time to cry
Now is the time to wave 2020 goodbye!

Cheesy rhymes put away
keeping those urges at bay
just kidding—definitely not
I’d get my brain in a knot!

As I was saying
before my words started rhyming
This is the end of a hell of a year
A new one is here
almost, within touching distance
let’s hope it’s different than last one, good riddance!

Twenty Twenty

Was this year a fool’s year?
A wasted year?
Has life all gone to shit?

Alas, for some, yes.
Many have lost those dearest
Many have little food to eat
So many are struggling and suffering
2020 has not been a good year for them.

While Jeff Bezos lines his coffers
and we gaze into empty restaurants
wearing masks aka breath condensers
life goes on.

For me, it’s not too bad.
Sure, few parties,
not going to Antarctica
and a bunch of other stuff
which pales in comparison
to the stuff others have gone through.

No bragging about me and you
Just spare a thought for those
those less fortunate.

You

I sit here in silent awe
with a hint of admiration.
You need not know,
you need not be aware.
There is a quiet smile
spreading across my world.

In the moment

This is spontaneous
but I think—and all ought to think likewise—

we spend too much time thinking of the other;
too much time being elsewhere
too much time away from where we need to be
altogether too much time from where we must be.

And that is a secret place:
few—only the truly Wise—know of it
us mortals can only strive
to be truly alive
by discovering the sheer beauty
the beauty of you next to me
the bliss of no worry, indeed far from it;
drop everything, so be it!
For you have found how be present
present in this very moment.
